What's New !

Welcome to LUTTERWORTH URC ...

We are, at present, working to bring the outside of our church building up to standard. It was built in 1777 and was in need of a lot of work. We have all worked very hard to cover all this, but have not yet managed to achieve our target. Nehemiah chapter 3 tells us of the rebuilding of the city walls at Jerusalem and it details of difficulties that were encountered. Our difficulties are not the same, but sometimes have seemed as unsurmountable. The church started meeting here in 1689, but the building we know was not erected until 1777. As it is a grade 11 listed building in a conservation area we have found the negotiations for refurbishment long and tedious.

After a long haul and the frustration of delays, the work on the church front is nearing completion and the restoration of the building to something of its former glory is now evident. Most people agree that it is a good piece of elegant workmanship. It has made us realise, more than ever, the sacrificial devotion of our forebears who undertook the task of constructing the building, as well as the faithful servants of the Lord in this place who maintained and improved it.

Our work in the United Reformed Church in Lutterworth is to rebuild the spiritual and educational life of those in our community. We have a programme which includes a support group with parents and carers of small children, providing educational and recreational facilities for the young people who come along, as well as giving the adults an opportunity to talk through their concerns. We also run a group for the junior age young people, which meets after school, where craft work is used to help the youngsters relax and develop. We also have a separate study time for them when they can work together to discuss secular and religious issues. The church fellowship also meets regularly to discuss these things and the implications of living in the 21st century. We sometimes meet all together and at other times in small groups. We also have a group of people, often those who would otherwise always eat alone, who come once a week for the opportunity to chat with others and a meal.

If you are ever in our area, do drop in and visit us, we would love to see you ....
